Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is more likely if you are over 65, smoke or used to smoke, have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or kidney disease, or have had a heart attack or stroke. Warning signs include leg or calf pain when walking that eases with rest, foot or toe pain at night, a sore on the foot or leg that will not heal, or one foot that is colder or paler than the other. If two or more apply to you, a short, painless test in our office (an ankle-brachial index and ultrasound) can tell you where you stand.
